Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, future queen and current Harvard graduate student, may be forced to leave the United States following the Trump administration’s sweeping ban on foreign students at the university.
The 23-year-old royal, enrolled in a two-year master's program in public policy at Harvard, is among over 7,000 international students affected by the decision. The U.S. government has accused Harvard of fostering antisemitism and non-compliance with information-sharing requests, leading to the revocation of its authorization to host foreign students.
In response, Harvard filed a lawsuit, warning of a "devastating effect" on both the institution and the affected students, who make up roughly a quarter of its student body. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that foreign students must transfer to other institutions to retain their visas.
Princess Elisabeth, the eldest daughter of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, had completed one year of her program after graduating from Oxford University in the UK. Her enrollment is now uncertain, with the Belgian royal household stating that they are closely monitoring and analyzing the situation.
This latest move is part of the Trump administration’s broader campaign against U.S. universities, citing ideological bias and antisemitism as grounds for visa terminations and funding cuts.
